Learn to type in Rohingya online
This free typing tutor teaches both Rohingya writing systems. In Hanifi mode your normal QWERTY keyboard becomes a Hanifi keyboard with a phonetic layout — the on-screen keys show exactly which key produces each letter, including Shift combinations for letters like 𐴈 (kha) and 𐴄 (tta) and the tone marks. In Rohingyalish mode you practise the Latin spelling with its accented letters (á, é, í, ó, ú, ñ, ç) using simple apostrophe shortcuts.
All practice words are real vocabulary from our English–Rohingya dictionary, so every session doubles as vocabulary practice.
Frequently asked questions
How do I learn to type in Rohingya?
Pick a script (Hanifi or Rohingyalish) and start with Lesson 1. The on-screen keyboard highlights the exact key to press for each character, and your speed (WPM), accuracy and errors are tracked live. Work up through the four lessons, then test yourself in the Word Defense game.
What words am I practising with?
Real Rohingya vocabulary from our 6,500-word English–Rohingya dictionary — so every practice session also builds your vocabulary. Lessons are graded from short plain words up to long words with tone marks and special letters.
How does Hanifi typing work on a normal keyboard?
Each QWERTY key maps phonetically to a Hanifi letter (B → 𐴁 ba, K → 𐴑 ka). Shift gives the related letter (Shift+K → 𐴈 kha, Shift+T → 𐴄 tta), and punctuation keys carry the tone marks. The on-screen keyboard always shows you which key to press.
How do I type the accented Rohingyalish letters?
Type the plain letter followed by an apostrophe: a' becomes á, n' becomes ñ, c' becomes ç. You can also type the accented character directly if your keyboard supports it.
Is my progress saved?
Yes — your best WPM for each script, tests completed, practice time and best game score are saved in your browser. Nothing is uploaded; the whole tutor runs offline once loaded.
