Rohingya Reader Privacy Policy
Last updated: 27 September 2026
Summary: Rohingya Reader converts Hanifi text to Rohingyalish on your device. It reads page text only to convert it, keeps only the list of websites you chose to always convert, and sends nothing anywhere.
1. About Rohingya Reader
Rohingya Reader — Hanifi to Rohingyalish is a browser extension published by RohingyaLanguage.org. It shows Hanifi Rohingya text on webpages in Rohingyalish (Rohingya written in the Latin alphabet) and can restore the original text. It changes the writing system only; it does not translate. This policy covers the extension only. The website has its own privacy policy.
2. What the extension processes
Text of webpages you ask it to convert. When you choose “Convert this page”, or visit a website you set to “Always convert”, the extension reads the text of that page inside your browser to find Hanifi characters and show them in Rohingyalish. It keeps the original text in memory, in that tab only, so that “Show original” can restore it. This copy disappears when you close or leave the page.
To show examples under “About this conversion”, the popup receives a few short passages from the current page where the converter approximated. These are also kept in memory only.
Page text is never saved to disk, sent anywhere, logged or shared.
3. What the extension stores
- Websites you chose to always convert: the hostname of each website (for example
example.com) and the time you turned the option on. This is kept in your browser's extension storage until you turn the option off or remove the extension. It is not synced or sent anywhere. - A temporary note while Chrome asks for website access: the hostname and tab number, kept in session storage so the setting can finish even if the popup closes. It is cleared when the setting completes, and in any case when the browser closes.
The extension does not store browsing history, the text of pages, or anything that identifies you.
4. What leaves your device
Nothing. The extension makes no network requests. It has no analytics, tracking, advertising, accounts or remotely loaded code. The only link in the extension, “Open the online script converter”, opens rohingyalanguage.org in a normal browser tab when you click it.
5. Permissions
- activeTab: access to the current tab only after you click the extension's button.
- scripting: to run the extension's own bundled converter in that tab, and on websites you chose to always convert.
- storage: to remember the websites you chose.
- Optional website access: requested one website at a time, only when you turn on “Always convert this website”. It is removed when you turn the option off, and you can also remove it in Chrome's extension settings.
7. Your choices
- Choose Show original to restore a page.
- Turn off Always convert this website to delete that website from storage and remove the extension's access to it.
- Removing the extension deletes all of its stored data.
8. Changes and contact
If a future version changes what is processed or stored, this page will be updated before that version is published, with a new “Last updated” date. For questions, contact ab@rohingyalanguage.org.
